Well, apparently Maryland and Virginia are now on lockdown. Virginia (where I live) has already declared a lockdown until June 30th. People are not to go out except for food, supplies, work, medical care, or to get fresh air or exercise.

Kinja'd!!!

So my question is, what are supplies ? Do janky old cars count?

Sugga for your time.

Janky old parts cars count, so you may be out of luck unless you plan on picking up another old Swede while you are out.

That Suga spot on the FP was actually very interesting. Kinda reminds me of the Kubelwagens that the Germans put Beetle bodies on for the officers.

If you can buy it, it’s a supply.

if you’re going to provide a pic for my time, it shouldn’t have been featured on the front page earlier today...that’s cheating!

Fair enough. Though the pic isn’t from the front page article, but it is likely the same car given the scenery and rarity of these cars.

Anyways I know a lot of people here don’t look at the FP anymore, but the article led me down the rabbit hole and now I want to forgo the 240 and get a Sugga!

I took the kids for rides in the Miata today, since it was perfect out and who knows are hard they're going to crack down on that sorta stuff

Nice!

It’s w eird, on one hand they are talking about this and how its a misdemeanor and you can be fined and you’re only supposed to go out for essential supplies . Then in the next breath Northam is like “You can still go play golf, just don’t go to the clubhouse afterwards.”

My take away is that this is mainly going to be a tool for them to crack down on groups, like all the idiots at the beach this past weekend.

Yeah, I have the same confusion. My wife is part of a local mom's group, and people have been complaining about people at the local basketball courts and dog parks. I think you're right in that those are who this crackdown is for

I agree. So hopefully skipping 3 states to buy an old ass Volvo is kosher!

My wife is going to have a fit...

Meh, OPPO has been openly “ignoring” the FP for 10 years. We mostly all still look though.

I’d bet it’s the same Sugga. I’m personally not a big fan of 240's but they’re sure as hell more readily available than Sugga’s are for purchase haha.

As for Supplies vs old cars. I’d skip anything you don’t NEED right now. Technically we don’t NEED old broken vehicles. Not stopping me from scouring marketplace for pandemic priced projects either though...

I’m being (mostly) facetious about going out to buy a project car. For most people it’s not a good idea right now . F or me it’s particularly bad - Mrs. Snuze and I both have careers where it would be bad optics, so flaunting the law to do that is bad for all the normal reasons, plus I’d have a lot of explaining to do if I got caught/something happened. I’m really considering the Volvo I’ve been posting about but going to get it wouldn’t be prudent. It’s either going to have to wait, or I’ll find another one. Shame because it would be a great quarantine project.

I appear to be getting over my “symptoms consistent with covid-19" that I was diagnosed with 9 days ago. Almost back to normal today (don’t worry haven’t left the house in 14 days and don’t plan to until a while after all symptoms are completely gone).

I looked at that V olvo, looks all do-able and I bet you can get them lower on price. Hopefully it’s still there when we’re allowed out of the house again.

Thankfully I have a garage full of projects to keep working on. Working from one side of the garage to the other at the moment lol. Finished up the 96 Yamaha’s fuel system upgrade on Sunday. Time to rebuild the carbs, replace the fuel pump, all new fuel lines on the 96 Polaris. Old 2-stroke jet skis are shockingly simple machines. I did 2 full motor swaps on the ski’s last year. Once the Polaris is done I can start on the 82 Mercury Capri that’s been sitting for waaaaay too long.

Also, Jet Skis are the perfect social distancing activity. If you are riding and you’re within 6 feet of the other person you’re doing something wrong lol

Glad you’re getting over your symptoms. Being sick sucks, having COVID-19 is potentially worse.I hope it was mild and this is it and you never get it again.

Hilarious! I’ve never ridden a jet ski, but I’d like to try. Maybe one day when we’re allowed out of the house again.

I have a few projects I need to finish up, but if I push hard I could get them all done in a couple days - rebuild the carbs on my 1989 CB-1, my Cruze needs it’s right taill ight housing and intake manifold both replaced, and my Volvo 850 needs new rear toe links and the front door cards replaced. I have all parts on hand except toe links, they are on the way. Once the work is done the Volvo and CB-1 both need to be washed/waxed and then they are both getting put up for sale.

If I get the wagon, it’s going to potentially be a long term project. First and foremost I’d fix the stuff it needs to get through inspection, then sort out the janky body work and find a seat solution for the front. At that point I’d decide if I’m still in love with it and want to keep it long term. If I do, I want to do a V8 swap with a 6 speed manual and a beefier rear axle. But I want to do it the “right” way, so also upgrading brakes and suspension to compliment the V8 power.

You know, now that I’m thinking about it, the Volvo seller’s ad did say “Can Deliver. ” I wonder how far they’d be willing to deliver...?

They didn’t want to use a test kit on me, I’m in Michigan (bouncing between 4th and 5th most cases in the country i believe). So I can’t officially say I have it/had it. Last week was rough. I was taking deep breaths just sitting there and winded from having a conversation. It’s getting a lot better.

I’m not sure where you’re located, but I should have 2 functional ones within the next month or so, you’re welcome to come out . It’s honestly the most fun you can have per dollar in my opinion. The old 2 stroke ones are cheap as hell and have more torque to jump up out of the water and accelerate faster than the newer 4 strokes (typically). My Raider 760 should go (when it’s tuned up right and running good) high 50 mph on the water. That’s fast on the water, especially on the little lakes I’m normally on . I can get across the lake in a few seconds haha. The Polaris 780 should go about the same and is a bigger craft (3 seater). Honestly, they’re just a riot. Imagine tubing behind a boat but being able to control exactly where you want to go all the time. I like to consider them water motorcycles.

Cheapness wise, I spent 1200 bucks for a double trailer with 2 (apparently) broken jet skis. Dropped about 1600 on new motors for both, new trailer tires, and new LED trailer lights. So all in with life vests, ropes, etc I’d say I’m about $3,000 in and I’ll have 2 brand new motor skis and a lot of hours of work. The good part about that work is that I know how to fix them if they break on the water and I really understand every piece of them.

Sounds like you’re clearing out the stable and will have room for a new long term project. I say swap the thing to have whatever motor/trans you want. LS is the obvious easy part, but you can always look outside the box for a unique combo. Like maybe grab a V8 from a Volvo S80, those things sound mean.

I’m in northern Virginia, right outside of DC. The term we are using here is “presumed positive” - had a guy who works at my installation (fortunately not in my building) who developed symptoms shortly after his roommate did. They tested the roommate, he was positive, so they told him “yeah, we’re gonna say we’re 99% sure you do, too. ”

Growing up my folks had a reasonably fast boat - Mako 21 with a 225 outboard, it would do around 40 to 45 knots if I had to venture a guess. We used to tube behind it and it was a riot. Given that, I c an only imagine how much fun a jetski is. And that’s not a lot of capital for all that fun!

How did you read my mind? I have done a lot of research into a B8444S swap. It’s not very common; I think there’s only a handful of completed examples running around . T he LS is easier and makes more power for less money. But t hat Yamaha makes some gorgeous noises . I can only imagine what it would sound like through a set of proper headers. There’s also some rumor that Volvo had to de-tune them so they wouldn’t break transmissions - too bad, they do anyways. Because of that nobody has done any real tuning on them. I suspect there’s some power to be found with good headers and good tune.

I’ve also been looking at how to mate one up to a 6 speed since they were only ever offered with autos. A s best I can tell they still use a Whiteblock bell housing pattern . A lot of the 240 guys do Whiteblock swaps with T-5 trans by using a 960 bell housing with a hole drilled in it to run a Corvette hydraulic throw out. I happen to already have a 960 bellhousing in my possession. It’s not like I’ve been planning this or anything.
